It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like…Holiday Stress
The holiday season is fast upon us, and brings with it feelings of merriment, wonder, togetherness and, of course, stress. Visiting in-laws, holiday traveling, and cooking/cleaning/wrapping sprees are enough to send any sane person into a tizzy. And then there’s the poor dog. And I think the cat just peed on the rug. Happy holidays, ya’ll.
Holiday stress hits the animals too. Our domesticated darlings often demonstrate this stress in undesirable ways. Your perfect pooch may suddenly pace and whine all night. She may chew up the presents you spend hours wrapping while listening to holidays tunes and sipping egg nog. The cat is probably throwing up some of that artificial tree you just proudly assembled. And then he will promptly climb the tree and knock it over. In other words, the dog and cat are messing up your holiday zen.
Fortunately, we have solutions to your holiday woes. Remember that our pets are creatures of habit. The like routine and stability and knowing what’s next. So your lovely mother in law now occupying the spare bed that Frisky sleeps on can kinda throw him for a loop. Pheromone diffusers like Feliway help make Frisky feel more “chill” than “kill”. Calming supplements like Composure Pro chews can take the edge off Fido, who’s not getting his evening walk. And for the more severely anxious, talk to us about temporary use of prescription calming agents.
We may not be able to eliminate all your holiday cares, but let us help control the seasonal animal angst that our furry friends feel. Happy holidays from all of us at Breckenridge Animal Hospital!
